Updates from Principal Nelson: Bingo, report cards, & distance learning

Updates from Principal Nelson: Bingo, report cards, & distance learning

Greetings Woodland families,

I hope this message finds you and your families well. I know it finds you stretched thin. This is a very challenging time for everyone. Thank you for everything you are juggling and all that you do to help your children learn every day. We know this is not easy! We also know that everyone is doing their best and longing for better circumstances. Please email me if you or your children need any additional support.

Bingo is Back

Bingo is back by popular demand for you and your family! We'll be playing from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14 (grades 2, 3, 4, and 5) and Tuesday, Dec. 15 (Four Star, kindergarten, and grade 1). Google Meet information was sent by email; if you did not receive it, please contact the front office. Find your cards here (edit: link has since been removed as it is no longer live); you will need to enter your student's name. If you have multiple players, use the link multiple times and enter each child's name.

A tip from the professionals: It might be easier for your student to have two devices running while we are playing: one for the Bingo card and one for the Google Meet. You're also welcome to print out your card!

Report Cards and Mid-Year Conferences

Trimester I report cards are now available on ParentVUE. Students in the DLA whose home school is Woodland will have their report cards available on Dec. 16 or 17.

Mid-year conferences will be held on Jan. 27, Feb. 2, and Feb. 4. Registration for these conferences will begin on Jan. 13 and will be done through ParentVUE. Don't have an account yet? Fill out this form and we will help you to create one.

Distance Learning Updates

When we return from winter break, we will continue in Distance Learning. Some grade levels may need to pick up materials to help students continue to learn from home. Please mark Thursday, Jan. 7 from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on your calendars as the next date for material pick-up. You will receive an email from your child's teacher if they have materials that need to be picked up.

Some members of our community have asked how long we will continue in Distance Learning. That depends on the average number of COVID-19 cases per every 10,000 residents in the county and the major cities within our district. Current guidelines require that for elementary schools to be in the Hybrid model, there must be fewer than 50 cases per 10,000 residents.

You can find COVID-19 case rate information on the Minnesota Department of Health's website and on our district's COVID-19 Dashboard, both of which are updated every Tuesday.

As always, I wish you and your family continued health and happiness.

Best,

Rob Nelson, Principal
